WHEREAS, the City's municipal water system is supplied primarily from its Platte
River Well Field; and
WHEREAS, uranium is naturally occurring in the aquifer in central Nebraska; and
WHEREAS, testing of individual wells for uranium has indicated some wells exceed
the Maximum Containment Level (MCL) established by the EPA; and
WHEREAS, to allow use of these wells during high water system demand periods,
additional piping was installed in the past year for blending with lower uranium concentration wells;
and
WHEREAS, as a proactive measure, in case uranium removal is necessary in the
future, a Request for Proposal for uranium treatment system engineering services was awarded to
HDR Engineering, Inc., of Lincoln, Nebraska on October 27, 2009; and
WHEREAS, HDR is familiar with the details of the Uranium Removal Water
Treatment technology; and
WHEREAS, the Request for Proposal included provisions for additional engineering
services; and
WHEREAS, HDR has provided a price quotation to provide engineering services for
procurement of uranium removal equipment for a large scale pilot treatment plant.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF GRAND ISLAND, NEBRASKA, that the Multiple Phase Project Agreement for
Professional Services, Task Order No. 1, between the City of Grand Island, and HDR
Engineering, Inc. , of Lincoln, Nebraska, is hereby approved.
