WHEREAS, the City of Grand Island and the County of Hall have had numerous
discussions in the past few years pertaining to office space limitations in the building utilized by the
Grand Island-Hall County Health Department; and
WHEREAS, the health department recently reorganized, as is now known as the
Central District Health Department which provides services to a three-county area; and
WHEREAS, the space constraints remain a problem for the health department, and
options have been discussed for relocating the department to another building; and
WHEREAS, on April 23, 2002, the City of Grand Island approved funding in the
amount of $75,000 for renovation costs to the Hall County Office Building to locate the Central
District Health Department in that building; and
WHEREAS, the health department is currently seeking other options for locating the
department; and
WHEREAS, it is in the City's best interests to financially assist the health department
in their goals of relocating the department; and
WHEREAS, it has been suggested to increase the City's financial contribution from
$75,000 to $250,000 to be used for the Central District Health Department's relocation and/or
building renovation expenses.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF GRAND ISLAND, NEBRASKA, that funding by the City of Grand Island to the
Central District Health Department be increased from $75,000 to $250,000 to assist in the costs
associated with relocating and/or renovating an existing building for their use.
