WHEREAS, the Grand Island Police Department has received notification that they
have been awarded $25,815 in grant funds for the year 2001 from the Local Law Enforcement Block
Grants (LLEBG) program; and
WHEREAS, the funds are to be used for police equipment, not personnel costs; and
WHEREAS, a public hearing was held on September 11, 2001 as required to discuss
the proposed use of such funds; and
WHEREAS, it is proposed that the grant funds be used for the following purposes:
portable radios with replacement batteries and charges, uniform needs for community service
officers, a dryer for blood and other fluids for the evidence room, and night vision equipment; and
WHEREAS, the above equipment is estimated to cost $18,700; and
WHEREAS, the remaining funds can be carried over until next year, or could be
utilized for unforeseen equipment needs.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF GRAND ISLAND, NEBRASKA, that approval be granted to utilize approximately
$18,500 of grant funds received from the Local Law Enforcement Block Grants program for the
items listed above.
