01/09/2001 Resolutions 2001-16 I I I RESOLUTION 2001-16 WHEREAS, the City Council, by authority of Section 22-27 of the Grand Island City Code, may by resolution regulate motor vehicle traffic upon the streets of the City of Grand Island; and WHEREAS, in addition, the City is required to comply with national standards set out in the Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices; and WHEREAS, the flashing red lights at the intersection of 20th Street and Oak Street, near Knickrehm Elementary School, do not conform with the standards of the Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices; and WHEREAS, after discussions with the Police Department, Public Works Department and school officials to determine the best alternative for pedestrian safety, it was recommended that yellow flashing lights be installed on Oak Street, and stop signs be installed for traffic on 20th Street to require all east and west bound traffic to stop prior to entering the intersection; and WHEREAS, it is in the city's best interests to effectuate such changes. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GRAND ISLAND, NEBRASKA, that 1. Yellow flashing lights be installed on Oak Street to replace the red flashing lights at the intersection of 20th Street and Oak Street. 2. Stop signs be installed on 20th Street where it intersects with Oak Street, requiring all east and west bound traffic to stop prior to entering such intersection. 3. The Street Department is hereby directed to install such signs and lights to regulate traffic as outlined above. Adopted by the City Council of the City of Grand Island, Nebraska on January 9,2001.
