01/09/2001 Resolutions 2001-15 I I I RESOLUTION 2001-15 WHEREAS, the Central Platte Natural Resources District, the City of Grand Island and Engineering Consultant Olsson Associates identified two developed areas within the City experiencing excessive high groundwater tables; and WHEREAS, a practical and cost-effective method of de-watering these areas and a discharge location has been found that will be beneficial to the City of Grand Island; and WHEREAS, the recommended plan to accomplish the dewatering consists of a series of vertical wells placed throughout the Project Area, and connected with a system of pipes to transfer the withdrawn water to the Platte River; and WHEREAS, funding is necessary to proceed with such de-watering project; and WHEREAS, it is anticipated that funding from the Natural Resource Development Fund administered by the Nebraska Natural Resources Commission may be used to finance a substantial portion of the construction costs; and WHEREAS, ajoint application by the City and the Central Platte Natural Resources District for funding from the Natural Resource Development Fund is suggested; and WHEREAS, funding from the Natural Resource Development Fund is not provided until the time of construction, therefore the City would not be obligated to reimburse the Nebraska Department of Natural Resources if the project is not constructed for project expenditures. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GRAND ISLAND, NEBRASKA, that a joint application with the Central Platte Natural Resources District for funding from the Natural Resource Development Fund for the de- watering proj ect is hereby authorized; and the Mayor is hereby authorized and directed to execute such application on behalf of the City of Grand Island.
