11/06/2000 Resolutions 2000-348 I I I RES 0 L UTI 0 N 2000-348 WHEREAS, a prospective Initiative Petition captioned 12 cent Sales Tax for Creating an Endowment for the City was filed with the City Clerk prior to circulation on April 1 0, 2000, and authorization for circulation of the petition was given on that date pursuant to Neb. Rev. Stat. 918- 2512; and WHEREAS, on April 10, 2000, there were 24,006 qualified electors in the City of Grand Island, 15% of which number is 3,600 electors; and WHEREAS, on October 10, 2000, six months from the date the prospective petition was authorized for circulation, said Initiative Petition bearing 1,583 signatures was filed with the City Clerk for signature verification; and WHEREAS, Neb. Rev. Stat. 918-2518 requires that upon passage of a resolution, the City Council may by agreement provide that the Hall County Election Commissioner shall ascertain whether said petition is signed by the requisite number of voters; and WHEREAS, the Hall County Election Commissioner has agreed to make said determination at no cost to the City, and will notify the City whether the necessary signatures required by Neb. Rev. Stat. 918-2501 through 918-2537 have been obtained. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GRAND ISLAND, NEBRASKA, that the Initiative Petition captioned 12 cent Sales Tax for Creating an Endowment for the City shall be submitted to the Hall County Election Commissioner to ascertain whether said petition is signed by the requisite number of voters. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Election Commissioner shall notify the Mayor and City Council whether the necessary signatures required by Neb. Rev. Stat. 918-2501 through 918-2537 have been obtained and shall forward to the City Council a copy of the Petition. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that pursuant to Neb. Rev. Stat. 918-2524 said Initiative Petition must bear the signatures equal in number to at least 15 percent of the qualified electors of the City of Grand Island as of April 10, 2000, the time at which the prospective petition was filed with the City Clerk; that is 3,600 signatures.
