WHEREAS, the Grand Island Police Department is continually striving to improve
its operations and update its standards of professionalism; and
WHEREAS, the Police Chiefs Association of Nebraska has developed a state
accreditation program which is comprehensive in nature, and mirrors the standards of accreditation
of the national Police Chiefs Association in adhering to the best standards and practices available;
and
WHEREAS, the Grand Island Police Department is interested in obtaining such state
accreditation; and
WHEREAS, after formal application is made, the Police Chiefs Association of
Nebraska will review and assess the management and organizational practices of the Grand Island
Police Department and make recommendations for improvements where necessary; and
WHEREAS, upon successful completion of the assessment and written report by the
Accreditation Coordinator, an Award of Accreditation will be presented.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF GRAND ISLAND, NEBRASKA, that the City of Grand Island supports the Police
Department's interest in receiving state accreditation.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Contract for Services Provided by the Police
Chiefs Association of Nebraska is hereby approved; and the Mayor is hereby authorized and directed
to execute such agreement on behalf of the City of Grand Island.
