06/13/2000 Resolutions 2000-176 I I I RES 0 L UTI 0 N 2000-176 WHEREAS, in today's dynamic climate of providing solid waste management services, several options are available to municipalities to ensure that the most efficient and cost effective services are provided; and WHEREAS, one option is the ability of the municipality to provide or contract for the collection of municipal solid waste; and WHEREAS, a resolution of intent is necessary to indicate the city's interest in providing such solid waste collection services; and WHEREAS, state law prohibits the city from commencing such solid waste collection service for one year from the date of the resolution of intent to begin providing such services; and WHEREAS, having the City of Grand Island provide, or contract for the provision of collecting solid waste, would protect the waste flow to its landfill. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GRAND ISLAND, NEBRASKA, that pursuant to Neb. Rev. Stat. S18-1752.01, as amended, the City of Grand Island proclaims its intent to provide or expand municipal solid waste collection service by use of municipal employees and equipment, or by contract, in areas where the collection of solid waste has been provided by a private entity prior to the commencement of such service by the municipality. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City of Grand Island does not intend to begin such solid waste collection activity prior to the expiration of any applicable limitation as stated in Neb. Rev. Stat.
