RES 0 L UTI 0 N 2000-176
WHEREAS, in today's dynamic climate of providing solid waste management
services, several options are available to municipalities to ensure that the most efficient and cost
effective services are provided; and
WHEREAS, one option is the ability of the municipality to provide or contract for
the collection of municipal solid waste; and
WHEREAS, a resolution of intent is necessary to indicate the city's interest in
providing such solid waste collection services; and
WHEREAS, state law prohibits the city from commencing such solid waste collection
service for one year from the date of the resolution of intent to begin providing such services; and
WHEREAS, having the City of Grand Island provide, or contract for the provision
of collecting solid waste, would protect the waste flow to its landfill.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF GRAND ISLAND, NEBRASKA, that pursuant to Neb. Rev. Stat. S18-1752.01, as
amended, the City of Grand Island proclaims its intent to provide or expand municipal solid waste
collection service by use of municipal employees and equipment, or by contract, in areas where the
collection of solid waste has been provided by a private entity prior to the commencement of such
service by the municipality.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City of Grand Island does not intend to begin
such solid waste collection activity prior to the expiration of any applicable limitation as stated in
Neb. Rev. Stat. S18-1752.02, as amended.
Adopted by the City Council of the City of Grand Island, Nebraska on June 13, 2000.
