WHEREAS, the Nebraska Department of Roads has evaluated and selected certain
highways to be widened to four lanes in order to provide increased access to population centers and
agricultural and industrial areas; and
WHEREAS, a significant increase in traffic volume and vehicle accidents on U.S.
Highway 30 between Columbus and Grand Island, Nebraska has created the need for improvements
that enhance safety and meet the transportation demands resulting from projected future population
growth; and
WHEREAS, the safe and efficient flow of manufacturing and agricultural
commodities on U.S. Highway 30 is a decisive factor in the location of new business and industry
that promotes overall economic growth; and
WHEREAS, it is in the best interests of the citizens of the Grand Island area to
support the widening of U.S. Highway 30 from Columbus to Grand Island, Nebraska.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF GRAND ISLAND, NEBRASKA, that the City of Grand Island urges the Nebraska
Highway Commission and the Nebraska Department of Roads to upgrade U.S. Highway 30 to a four-
lane divided expressway between Columbus and Grand Island, Nebraska.
