07/11/2005 Minutes I I I OFFICIAL PROCEEDINGS CITY OF GRAND ISLAND, NEBRASKA MINUTES OF JOINT CITY/COUNTY SPECIAL MEETING July 11, 2005 Pursuant to due call and notice thereof, a Special Joint Meeting of the City Council of the City of Grand Island, Nebraska, the Hall County Board of Supervisors, the Hamilton County Board of Commissioners, the Merrick County Board of Commissioners, and the Central District Health Department was conducted in the Council Chambers of City Hall, 100 East First Street, on July 11,2005. Notice of the meeting was given in the Grand Island Independent on July 7, 2005. Teresa Anderson, Executive Director of the Central District Health Department called the meeting to order at 7:05 p.m. The following Health Board members were present: Laurie Andrews and Anne Buettner, - County Representative: Jim Eriksen, and City Representative: Mitch Nickerson. The following Hall County Supervisors were present: Pam Lancaster, Bud Jeffries, and Jim Eriksen. The following Merrick County Supervisor was present: Roxanne Mostek. The following City Officials were present: Councilmember's Margaret Hornady, Scott Walker, Mitch Nickerson, Jackie Pielstick, Joyce Haase, Carole Cornelius, Fred Whitesides, Peg Gilbert, Mayor Jay Vavricek, City Administrator Gary Greer, City Clerk RaNae Edwards, and Finance Director David Springer. PRESENTATION BY TERESA ANDERSON EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR: Ms. Anderson presented a PowerPoint presentation highlighting the core functions of the Health Department. Mentioned were the public health core functions which were assessment, assurance, and policy. Presented were the budget, programming and staff overviews. Several areas covered were: community health programs, immunization clinics, environmental, water testing, Kids Connection, WIC, Child Care Solution, preparedness and response, and policy. DISCUSSION: It was mentioned that funding was from the City and County for a total of $270,000.00, state grants, federal grants, LB 692, and fees. It was mentioned that the Health Department was currently spraying for mosquitoes in the breeding areas.
