WHEREAS,the Nebraska State Fair has proposed routes for the 2026 Nebraska State
Fair Half Marathon and Full Marathon; and
WHEREAS,the Nebraska State Fair has worked with City and County departments
in planning the marathon race routes and developed acceptable routes; and
WHEREAS, specific wording is required by the Nebraska Department of
Transportation (NDOT) pursuant to Neb. Rev. Stat §39-1359, and
WHEREAS,the City accepts the duties set out in neb.Rev. Stat. §39-1359,and that if
a claim is made against the State,the City shall indemnify,defend,and hold harmless the State from
all claims,demands, actions, damages, and liability, including reasonable attorney's fees,that may
arise as a result of the special event, more specifically defined as the 2026 Nebraska State Fair
Marathon to be held on August 29, 2026; and
WHEREAS,the route for the special event necessitates the usage of US Highway 34;
crossing at Locust Street and Suhr Museum Entrance,and US Highway 30;Plum Street to Seedling
Mile Access Road, Grand Island, Nebraska; and
WHEREAS, the special event will be held on August 29, 2026, with the control of
US Highway 34 and US Highway 30 being assumed by the City at 2:00 am on August 29,2026 and
ending at 12:30 pm on August 29,2026,at which time control of US Highway 34;crossing at Locust
Street and Suhr Museum Entrance,and US Highway 30;Plum Street to Seedling Mile Access Road,
shall revert to the State.
NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF GRAND ISLAND, NEBRASKA, that the Notice of Use of City Streets and State
Highways to accommodate the 2026 Nebraska State Fair Marathon to be held on August 29,2026 is
hereby approved.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Nebraska Department of Transportation
(NDOT) shall be notified of the approved route and this Notice.
