WHEREAS, the City of Grand Island Public is growing and to provide adequate
library services and reach patrons across the city,particularly children and elderly the city needs to
purchase a bookmobile to use as a mobile library; and
WHEREAS, many citizens would benefit with the addition of a bookmobile with
library services to act as a library branch to provide patrons of the city library cards,allow check out
of materials to patrons, provide children with materials to help them with literacy skills, provide
additional resources for patrons,in addition inform and help patrons with the use of the Internet from.
the bookmobile,provide information and basic help with library online services-or refer them to the
main library; and
WHEREAS,the library would apply for a grant to help offset the estimated cost of$280,000-
$300,000 for a bookmobile; and
WHEREAS, the library would accept the grant if awarded; and
WHEREAS,if the library is awarded and accepts grant funds,that funds budgeted for library
kiosk for $70,000 in the FY25-26 budget be redirected to purchase of a bookmobile.
111 NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF GRAND ISLAND, NEBRASKA, approve the request to apply for grant funding,
accept grant funds if awarded, and redirect capital funds budgeted for kiosks to purchase of a
bookmobile.
