WHEREAS, Camp Augustine in Hall County was formerly developed by and utilized
by the Boys Scouts of America for outdoor recreation, education and development of leadership
life skills and;
WHEREAS, when the Boy Scouts of America decided to cease operation of the
Property, the City recognizing the significance of the camp and the opportunity to preserve the
Property for outdoor recreational purposes, acquired ownership and;
WHEREAS, the State of Nebraska Game and Parks Commission and the Nebraska
Game and Parks Foundation share a mutual desire to work with the City to preserve and develop
recreational opportunities upon the Property and ultimately transfer management responsibilities
for the Property to the Commission and;
WHEREAS, the Parties have negotiated a Memorandum of Understanding that outlines
the purpose of the collaboration, including responsibilities to continue with the future
development of the Property to the state park system and
WHEREAS, a proposed Memorandum of understanding has been prepared; and
WHEREAS, it is recommended that such Memorandum of Understanding be approved.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF GRAND ISLAND,NEBRASKA,that the Memorandum of Understanding by and between the
City, State of Nebraska Game and Parks Commission, and the Nebraska Game and Parks
Foundation for the preservation and development of recreation opportunities of the Camp
Augustine Property is hereby approved.
BE IT FUTHER RESOLVED, that the Mayor is hereby authorized and directed to
execute such agreement on behalf of the City of Grand Island.
