WHEREAS, the City approved the Grand Island Police Department's budget
authority to purchase police in car radios and portable radios as part of the City/County public safety
radio upgrade for interoperability and better communications; and
WHEREAS,the Grand Island Police Department requests to purchase the following
in car radios and portable radios, priced under state contract 16054(oc):
QTY 49—APX8500 in car radios (replace outdated in car radios) $451,117.68,
QTY 28 -APX8000 portables (additional new portables radios with equipment) $278,798.52,
WHEREAS, the additional radios will fulfill the need for all sworn officers and non
sworn personnel to have a new portable P25 compliant radio and replace all outdated in car radios
with new P25 complaint radios, and
WHEREAS, the Police Department wishes to purchase forty-nine (49) APX8500
P25 complaint all band car radios and twenty-eight(28)APX8000 P25 compliant all band portable
radios for a total of$729,916.53. These purchases will be funded using the Capital Expenditure
funds approved for 2026, and
NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF GRAND ISLAND, NEBRASKA, to approve the purchase of forty-nine (49)
APX8500 P25 complaint all band car radios and twenty-eight(28)APX8000 P25 compliant all band
portable radios from Platte Valley Communications(an authorized Motorola Sales Representative)
using the state contract 16054(oc), for a total cost of$729,916.53.
