12/09/2025 Resolutions 2025-409 RESOLUTION 2025-409 WHEREAS, the GRACE Foundation has proposed routes for the 2026 Race for GRACE 2 mile and 10K marathons; and WHEREAS,the GRACE Foundation has worked with City departments in planning the marathon race routes and developed acceptable routes; and WHEREAS, specific wording is required by the Nebraska Department of Transportation (NDOT) pursuant to Neb. Rev. Stat §39-1359, and WHEREAS,the City accepts the duties set out in neb.Rev. Stat. §39-1359,and that if a claim is made against the State,the City shall indemnify,defend,and hold harmless the State from all claims,demands, actions,damages,and liability,including reasonable attorney's fees,that may arise as a result of the special event, more specifically defined as the 2026 Race for GRACE marathon to be held on April 11, 2026; and WHEREAS,the route for the special event necessitates the usage of US Highway 34; crossing at the Grand Island Community College Entrance, Grand Island,Nebraska; and WHEREAS,the special event will be held on April 11,2026,with the control of US Highway 34 being assumed by the City at 9:00 am on April 11, 2026 and ending at 12:00 pm on April 11,2026, at which time control of US Highway 34; crossing at the Grand Island Community College Entrance, shall revert to the State. NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GRAND ISLAND,NEBRASKA, that the Notice of Use of City Streets and State Highways to accommodate the 2026 Race for GRACE marathon to be held on April 11, 2026 is hereby approved. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Nebraska Department of Transportation (NDOT) shall be notified of the approved route and this Notice.
