10/28/2025 Resolutions 2025-363 RESOLUTION 2025-363 A Resolution of the Mayor and City Council of the City of Grand Island, Nebraska, Approving a Memorandum of Understanding with the International Association of Firefighters Local 1597 (IAFF). WHEREAS,pursuant to Neb.Rev. Stat., §16-201,the City has the authority to make all contracts and do all other acts in relation to the property and concerns of the City necessary to the exercise of its corporate powers; and WHEREAS,an employee bargaining unit at the City Of Grand Island is represented by the International Association of Firefighters Local 1597 (IAFF); and WHEREAS, representatives of the City and the IAFF have met and negotiated a Memorandum of Understanding(MOU)to modify certain terms of the current collective bargaining agreement; and WHEREAS, the proposed MOU amends provisions of Article II(Hours of Work), Article III(Overtime),Article IV(Holidays),Article V(Vacations),Article VI(Bereavement Leave), and Exhibit C(Salary Table for FY2025-2026) of the existing Agreement; and WHEREAS,the City and the IAFF have reached a mutual agreement,and said MOU has been presented to the City Council for review and approval. NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GRAND ISLAND,NEBRASKA that the Mayor is hereby authorized to execute,on behalf of the City,the Memorandum of Understanding by and between the City of Grand Island and the International Association of Firefighters Local 1597,with an effective period beginning January 11, 2026, and continuing through September 30, 2026. If the mayor neglects or refuses to sign any ordinance, order, bylaw, resolution, award, or vote to enter into any contract, or the allowance of any claim, and returns the same with objections in writing to the next regular meeting of the council, the same shall become a law without the mayor's signature. The mayor may veto any item or items of any appropriation bill, and approve the remainder thereof. An item or items so vetoed may be passed by the council over the veto as in other cases.
