10/28/2025 Ordinances 10,043 ORDINANCE NO. 10,043 AN ORDINANCE to amend Chapter 2 —Administration of the Grand Island City Code, specifically Section 2-18 entitled "Mayor; Compensation" and Section 2-21 entitled "City Council Members; Compensation", to establish the compensation of members of the City Council and Mayor; to direct periodic updates; to repeal all ordinances and parts of ordinances in conflict herewith; to provide for severability; to provide for publication in pamphlet form; and to provide for the effective date of this ordinance. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE MAYOR AND COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GRAND ISLAND,NEBRASKA: Section I. Amendment of City Code That Sections 2-18 and 2-21 of the Grand Island City Code are hereby amended to read as follows: Sec. 2-18. Mayor; Compensation. Until the monthly installment payable prior to December 2026, the annual compensation for the Mayor shall be sixteen thousand dollars ($16,000), payable monthly in equal installments as required by law. Beginning with the first regular meeting of the City Council in December 2026, and every four years thereafter, the Mayor's pay shall be increased on December 1st of said year thereafter by an amount equivalent to all cost-of-living increases provided to the City's non- union employees during the preceding term of office. In the event no cost of living increases are provided to non-union employees, the Mayor's compensation shall remain the same. Sec. 2-21. City Council Members; Compensation. ORDINANCE NO. 10,043 (cont.) Until the monthly installment payable prior to December 2026, the annual compensation for members of the City Council shall be seven thousand eight hundred dollars ($7,800.00), payable monthly in equal installments as required by law. Beginning with the first regular meeting of the City Council in December 2026, and thereafter, the annual compensation for members of the City Council shall be ten thousand seven hundred one dollars ($10,701.00),payable in equal monthly installments as required by law. Commencing December 1, 2028 and continuing biannually thereafter, pay for members of the City Council shall be increased by an amount equivalent to all cost-of-living increases provided to the City's non-union employees during the preceding two years. In the event no cost of living increase is provided to non-union employees, Council member's compensation shall remain the same. Section III. Repeal of Conflicting Ordinances All ordinances and parts of ordinances in conflict with this ordinance are hereby repealed. Section IV. Effective Date This ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage, approval, and publication in pamphlet form as provided by law. Section V. Severability If any section, subsection, sentence, clause, or phrase of this ordinance is, for any reason, held to be invalid, illegal, or unenforceable by a court of competent jurisdiction, such decision shall not affect the validity or enforceability of the remaining portions of this ordinance.
