WHEREAS, the City approved the Grand Island Police Department's budget
authority to purchase police portable radios and radio upgrades as part of the City/County public
safety radio upgrade for interoperability and better communications; and
WHEREAS,the Grand Island Police Department requests to purchase the following
portable radios, radio upgrades and labor,priced under state contract 16054(oc):
QTY 85 - 800MHz add on for APX8000 (upgrade the current portable radios) $181,434.20
QTY 20 - APX8000 portables (additional new portables radios with equipment) $196,348.00
PVC Labor for 800MHz add-on(labor to upgrade current portable radios) $4,830.00
WHEREAS, the additional radios will fulfill the need for all sworn officers and non
sworn personnel to have a new portable P25 compliant radio and start the need for all TRT members
to have a spare radio with their TRT gear, and
WHEREAS, the Police Department wishes to purchase the twelve (12) APX8000
portable radios,eight-five(85) 800MHz add ons for current radios,and the labor for the upgrade to
current radios for a total of$304,073.00. These purchases will be funded by the $300,000 COPS
Grant with the remaining expense paid out of the Misc.Operating Equipment line item in the general
fund. The Police Department wish to also purchase the additional eight(8)APX8000 portable radio
for a total of$78,539.20 using the Capital Expenditure funds approved for 2025.
NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF GRAND ISLAND, NEBRASKA, to approve the purchase of eighty-five (85)
portable radio upgrades,twenty (20)portable radios, and the labor to install the radios from Platte
Valley Communications using the state contract 16054(oc), for a total cost of$382,612.20.
