08/13/2024 Resolutions 2024-183 RESOLUTION 2024-183 WHEREAS, the City of Grand Island applied for a grant from the National League of Cities (NLC) Advancing Economic Mobility program to fund the creation of a partnership between the City, community groups and educational organizations for the implementation of a pilot project called the Grand Island Community Kitchen Pilot Project; and WHEREAS, using NLC grant funding, the Grand Island Community Kitchen Pilot Project could provide direct funding assistance to entrepreneurs with a household income of 200% or less of the federal poverty limit to be used toward the cost of renting shared commercial kitchen space, purchasing supplies or creating marketing materials in order to provide equitable support to entrepreneurs and small businesses; and WHEREAS, the creation of the Grand Island Community Kitchen Pilot Project aligns with the City of Grand Island 2023 Economic Development Plan priorities to provide technical assistance, grants and agreements to qualifying Grand Island businesses to stimulate economic growth in Grand Island and further aligns with goals of the Grow Grand Island Business Development Strategy to provide entrepreneurs with necessary assistance and nurture an entrepreneurial culture; and WHEREAS, on June 24, 2024, the City of Grand Island was notified by NLC that it was selected as one of twelve local governments in the United States to participate in their Advancing Economic Mobility program and awarded a grant in the amount of $20,000 to implement the Grand Island Community Kitchen Pilot Project. WHEREAS, City Staff recommends the acceptance of the NLC Advancing Economic Mobility grant award and the participation of the City in the national cohort of local governments. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GRAND ISLAND, NEBRASKA, that the Mayor is hereby authorized and directed to accept the NLC Advancing Economic Mobility grant in the amount of$20,000 and to execute all documents related to the grant and program on behalf of the City of Grand Island and to take all other actions necessary to effect the purpose of this resolution.
