04/23/2024 Resolutions 2024-108 RESOLUTION 2024-108 WHEREAS,the City of Grand Island Police Department is requesting to apply for a federal grant through the Law Enforcement Mental Health and Wellness Act to fund a mental health and wellness program for GIPD officers.; and WHEREAS, the Police Department budgeted, in FY 2025, for this grant, up to 88 officers (full staff) so that we have funding for everyone to attend if we reach full staff by the time the program is implemented. The total estimated cost of this programming for two years is $210,457.00 with $189,410 being requested and reimbursed by the grant and $21,047 in local funding; and WHEREAS, the Police Department will gather the data via surveys before, during and after program implementation to gauge the success of this pilot program. Strengthening our support and investment in the mental health and wellness of GIPD officers will create a more resilient team, who are better prepared to serve our community no matter what calls come in. NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GRAND ISLAND, NEBRASKA, to approve the application for the Law Enforcement Mental Health and Wellness Act grant and$21,047 local match.
