Staff Contact: Grand Island Regular Meeting - 11/14/2022 Page 3 / 31 Library Board Monday, November 14, 2022 Regular Meeting Item B1 Approval of Minutes of October 17, 2022 Staff Contact: Grand Island Regular Meeting - 11/14/2022 Page 4 / 31 CITY OF GRAND ISLAND GRAND ISLAND PUBLIC LIBRARY BOARD OFFICIAL PROCEEDINGS MINUTES OF REGULAR LIBRARY BOARD MEETING October 17, 2022 Pursuant to due call and notice thereof, a Regular Meeting of the Library Board of the Grand Island Public Library was conducted on Monday, October 17, 2022. Notice appeared in the Grand Island Independent on October 13, 2022. A quorum present, President Jaime Parr called the meeting to order at 5:15 p.m. The following members were present: Sara White, Tanya Hansen, Kari Hooker-Leep, Barbara Beck, Anna Stehlik and Beth Stecker. Celine Swan, Shaun Klee and Brian Schultz were also present. Open Meetings Law Notice: Provided by President Jaime Parr. Public Participation: None Approval of Minutes: Motion by Tanya Hansen, seconded by Kari Hooker-Leep, carried unanimously to accept for filing the Minutes of the September 19, 2022 library board meeting. REPORTS: Approval of Financial Report: Motion by Tanya Hansen, seconded by Kari Hooker-Leep, carried unanimously to accept for filing the August 2022 Financials. Approval of Bills Submitted: Motion by Tanya Hansen, seconded by Kari Hooker-Leep, carried unanimously to accept for filing the September 27, 2022 and October 11, 2022 Bills Submitted. . Approval of Director’s Report: Discussion took place regarding reports for outstanding fines starting October 1, 2022. Shaun will do a sample report for the board and present it next month to see if that will work for them and it can be presented monthly or quarterly. Also starting October 1, 2022 the library will share the number of people and amounts sent to collections with the board. Motion by Tanya Hansen, seconded by Kari Hooker-Leep, carried unanimously to accept for filing the Director’s Report. The city attorney asked Celine to also have the board vote on write offs on past patron accounts. Motion by Tanya Hansen, seconded by Anna Stehlik, carried unanimously to accept for filing library staff is authorized by the board to write off all money owed to the library due to fines or fees through September 30, 2022. Board Communications and Committee Reports: Three of the strategic groups gave an overview. The other two groups will give their overviews next month. Strategic Plan Discussion: Beth Stecker, Barb Beck and Anna Stehlik met with Celine Swan and Jaime Parr this month. They shared their committee reports with the board. She got 50 to sign-up for library cards. • Updates: on waiving fines/fees Police Substation • Willa Cather Foundation has gifted the Library Foundation a replica valued at $3,000 • Heartland Health will be back weekly to help patrons • Library is taking part in Literacy Summit work, Welcome Initiative, Literacy Council act. • October 5 Papillion Library visited Makerspace and Library • October 7 Random Acts of Kindness, handed out gift cards • October 8 Active Chiro Fall Festival-table 250 in attendance.
