MINUTES OF REGULAR LIBRARY BOARD MEETING
July 18, 2022
Pursuant to due call and notice thereof, a Regular Meeting of the Library Board of the Grand Island Public
Library was conducted on Monday, July 18, 2022. Notice appeared in the Grand Island Independent on July 14,
2022. A quorum present, President Jaime Parr called the meeting to order at 5:15 p.m. The following members
were present: Sara White, Tanya Hansen, Kari Hooker-Leep, Barbara Beck, and Beth Stecker. Celine Swan was
also present.
Open Meetings Law Notice: Provided by President Jaime Parr.
Public Participation: None
Approval of Minutes: Motion by Tanya Hansen, seconded by Sara White, carried unanimously to accept for
filing the Minutes of the June 20, 2022 library board meeting.
REPORTS:
Approval of Financial Report: Motion by Tanya Hansen, seconded by Kari Hooker-Leep, carried unanimously to
accept for filing the May 2022 Financial Reports.
Approval of Bills Submitted: Motion by Tanya Hansen, seconded by Kari Hooker-Leep, carried unanimously to
accept for filing the June 28, 2022 and July 12, 2022 Bills Submitted.

Approval of Director’s Report: Motion by Kari Hooker-Leep, seconded by Beth Stecker, carried unanimously to
accept for filing the Director’s Report.
Board Communications and Committee Reports: Jamie Parr discussed the need to assign board members to
committees as well as part of the Strategic Plan. The board will email Jaime with their choices by Friday, July 22,
2022. The following committees were voted on so far:
Motion by Jaime Parr, seconded by Tanya Hansen, carried unanimously to accept for filing that Tanya Hansen
and Anna Stehlik will preside on the Policies and Procedures Committee.
Motion by Tanya Hansen, seconded by Kari Hooker-Leep, carried unanimously to accept for filing that Tanya
Hansen and Sara White will preside on the Liaisons to the Foundation Committee.
Call To Action For Each Month’s Meeting: Celine handed out a folder to all board members with information for
them to keep and this was included in those folders.
First Amendment Audit Discussion: Continuing agenda item.
Discussion – Library Going Fine Free: Celine let the board know that this will go into effect October 1, 2022.
Introduction of New Library Board Members: Each member introduced themselves and Supervisors Shaun Klee
and Laura Fentress came in to meet them and introduce themselves as well.
Circ Policies: Continuing agenda item.
Liaisons to the Foundation: Discussion took place explaining the role of liaisons to the Foundation.

City Council Liasion: The board was informed that Vaughn Minton will be replaced as our liaison and that the
Mayor chooses who this will be.
Future Board Meeting Dates/Time: It was decided to keep the current schedule.
Next Meeting: Monday August 22, 2022 at 5:15 pm
There being no other business the meeting was adjourned at 7:00 p.m.

Approval of Director's Report
The Director's Report typically consists of:
1) a monthly report of programs and activities, public use of meeting spaces, library media, and
Librarians' Reports
2) a quarterly Report of Household Library Cards Issued to Hall County Residents Outside of Grand
Island provided in January, April, July and October of each year
3) a quarterly statistical usage report provided in February, May, August and November of each year
4) upon execution of agreement, regularly scheduled report of use of Grand Island Public Library
Foundation library support funds
5) upon publication, a Library newsletter
6) and additional administrative items of note, either in the agenda packet or discussed at the meeting.

• Cleared out the off-site storage on Front St. completely by the end of July as per finance’s request

• State Fair-will partner with the Latino Day on Sept 4 with two bilingual Storytimes/Crafts
• Outreach to O’Conner Learning Center-ELC partnering. All school registration July
14/Literacy Summit in 2023
• Update-Met with Comprise, and City IT/Shaun for plan for upgrading software, better
wireless printing, reservations possible begin with teen computers, replacing Kiosk and Printer plan
• Foundation work with Leigh on sponsorships, grants, handouts, Booksale raised around $17,000
• Go before City Council on July 26 for budget planning including Fine Free. Cancelled
• Working on- welcoming patrons through library signs, TLC adding Somali, and Arabic,
Comprise has multi-languages, flyers, etc
• Alessandra/Laura are working on PSA’s for KRGI bilingual, and will work with Fiesta 94.5 Central Telemundo NE, a new station coming in on 4th St.
• Laura sent out two PSAs in Spanish to KRGI

• City IT is putting in the ½ of the staff computers we ordered, and 2 teen computers, finished reports due for ARPA grants, and Greater Grand Island Laskowki Funding Grant, putting together the library security camera project,
• Laura is putting in Makerspace teen station-from her Youth Grant, new teen Anime Prog
• Library page job openings were filled we have two new pages: Pat Bell, Darlene Polk
• Summer Temp Workers are all done, School workers here,Success Academy, Indrid Hs.
• PrimeTime Family Reading begins 9/10 for preschoolers and 9/12 for elementary ages
• Update on Study Session from 8/16/2022
