Staff Contact: Grand Island Regular Meeting - 5/16/2022 Page 3 / 38 Library Board Monday, May 16, 2022 Regular Meeting Item B1 Approval of Minutes of April 18, 2022 Staff Contact: Grand Island Regular Meeting - 5/16/2022 Page 4 / 38 CITY OF GRAND ISLAND GRAND ISLAND PUBLIC LIBRARY BOARD OFFICIAL PROCEEDINGS MINUTES OF REGULAR LIBRARY BOARD MEETING April 18, 2022 Pursuant to due call and notice thereof, a Regular Meeting of the Library Board of the Grand Island Public Library was conducted on Monday, April 18, 2022. Notice appeared in the Grand Island Independent on March 14, 2022. A quorum present, President Tanya Hansen called the meeting to order at 5:15 p.m. The following members were present: Ed Meedel, Jaime Parr, Sara White, Kelli Arens and Maria Lopez. Celine Swan and Vaughn Minton were also present. Open Meetings Law Notice: Provided by President Tanya Hansen. Public Participation: None Approval of Minutes: No reports available from city hall at this time. REPORTS: Approval of Financial Report: Motion by Ed Meedel, seconded by Maria Lopez, carried unanimously to accept for filing the February 2022 Financial Reports. Approval of Bills Submitted: Motion by Ed Meedel, seconded by Kelli Arens, carried unanimously to accept for filing the March 22, 2022 and April 12, 2022 Bills Submitted. . Approval of Director’s Report: Motion by Kelli Arens, seconded by Ed Meedel, carried unanimously to accept for filing the Director’s Report. Board Communications and Committee Reports: Nothing to report at this time. Planning for Strategic Plan: The Strategic Plan is almost ready. There are just a few more things to finish up and it should be out in a few weeks. Board Approval for Reinstatement: Curtis Wright is seeking reinstatement. He did not attend the meeting so approval was needed to have Celine get in touch with him and invite him to next month’s meeting. Motion by Jaime Parr, seconded by Maria Lopez, carried unanimously to accept for filing for Celine to reach out to Curtis Wright and invite him to our May board meeting. New Board Members: Celine shared that numerous applications have been received so far for the four board positions that will come up in July. Call To Action For Each Month’s Meeting: Items coming up: -Go Big Give (board volunteers will be needed….there will be a sign up sheet) -Encourage board to share social media posts regarding the library. -Discussion took place about FTE. Encourage those that make comments about wanting the library to be open more hours to contact the mayor and city council members. Staff Contact: Grand Island Regular Meeting - 5/16/2022 Page 20 / 38 April • Media Report, Shaun and Laura report, Makerspace has been busy. We had to turn away people that needed Makerspace right away and meeting rooms. • Shaun/Celine/Laura working on updating library policies and Strategic Plan with Tanya • Bibliotheca selfcheckouts/gates-back were installed in April • FTEs for Summer 0.5 request went to City Council March 22 and approved. Interviewed and chose summer workers in April. Set to start at the end of May. • Working with Library Foundation for Go Big Give, National Library Week, Crane-Outdoor Sound, Sponsorships, Vibe added Library. We will get Visitor’s Bureau a bookmark. • H3C Board-Week of the Young Child March and April Promotions using Makerspace-CCC, H3C Week of the Young Child, Literacy Summit,-ELC, HN PrimeTimes began March 14 school age, and March 19 Preschool. Ended in April. • Seed Exchange, Pollination Display • Spring Break and Dr. Seuss Week, National Library Week went well with the Bear Fair April 4, Staff and Public Appreciation, Take Action for Libraries. GIPL Foundation provided a luncheon for staff. Thanks! • Summer Reading Programs and marketing materials, flyer with Parks Dept. • Laura received an additional $1,000 for her Youth Grant from the Nebraska Lib. Comm. • AARP Tax Help have helped around 500 this year, answered hundreds of questions too • City IT updated Kiosks, Digital Media Lab is available, Waiting for Davis-he has equipment he is waiting for to add sound equipment • Working with Library Foundation for Go Big Give-May 1 table with information, GBG program May 5.
