MINUTES OF REGULAR LIBRARY BOARD MEETING
February 21, 2022
Pursuant to due call and notice thereof, a Regular Meeting of the Library Board of the Grand Island Public
Library was conducted on Monday, February 21, 2022. Notice appeared in the Grand Island Independent on
February 17, 2022. A quorum present, President Tanya Hansen called the meeting to order at 5:15 p.m. The
following members were present: Ed Meedel, Jaime Parr, Sara White, Kelli Arens and Maria Lopez. Celine Swan
and Vaughn Minton were also present.
Open Meetings Law Notice: Provided by President Tanya Hansen.
Public Participation: None
Approval of Minutes: Motion by Ed Meedel, seconded by Jaime Parr, carried unanimously to accept for filing the
Minutes of the January 31, 2022 library board meeting.
REPORTS:
Approval of Financial Report: Motion by Ed Meedel, seconded by Jaime Parr, carried unanimously to accept for
filing the January 2022 Financial Reports.
Approval of Bills Submitted: Motion by Ed Meedel, seconded by Jaime Parr, carried unanimously to accept for
filing the January 25, 2022 and February 8, 2022 Bills Submitted.

Approval of Director’s Report: Motion by Ed Meedel, seconded by Kelli Arens, carried unanimously to accept for
filing the Director’s Report.
Board Communications and Committee Reports: Nothing to report at this time.
Planning for Strategic Plan: Tanya is still making a few changes and will have ready at the March meeting.
Next Meeting: Monday March 21, 2022 at 5:15 pm

Approval of Director's Report
The Director's Report typically consists of:
1) a monthly report of programs and activities, public use of meeting spaces, library media, and
Librarians' Reports
2) a quarterly Report of Household Library Cards Issued to Hall County Residents Outside of Grand
Island provided in January, April, July and October of each year
3) a quarterly statistical usage report provided in February, May, August and November of each year
4) upon execution of agreement, regularly scheduled report of use of Grand Island Public Library
Foundation library support funds
5) upon publication, a Library newsletter
6) and additional administrative items of note, either in the agenda packet or discussed at the meeting.

• Media Report, Shaun and Laura report
• Ray and Robert need to train with HVAC Honeywell Replacement working with Jerry’s
Sheet Metal and Brian from Control Logic. They looked at HVAC to tweak.
• H3C PIWI Parents Interacting with Infants Program/Literacy Summit Meetings with ELC
• Promoting SORA with Northwest. Shaun did a Beanstack Promotion.
• City IT updated 3 digital displays at the library using Raspberry Pi’s
• Digital Lab Materials ordered and in, staff are working on setting up, Celine had sound panels put in MR-A.
• Laura working on Every Child Ready to Read Area with new Signage and rearrangement and investigating software for children’s computers, links for kids
• Library Annual Report was presented to the City Council at Feb 8 meeting by C Swan and Tanya Hansen, President was in attendance and acknowledged by Mayor Steele
• Nebraska Library Commission Public Survey due 2/18/2022 completed
• Shaun/Celine/Laura working on updating library policies with Tanya after Strategic Plan
• ByGone BookClub 2/12 had 41 attend
Upcoming-Library work
• Bear Week, Spring Break, Dr. Seuss (good numbers) Planning for Bear Fair for April 4, Summer Reading Programs and marketing materials, flyer with Parks Dept.
• Laura is attending PLA in Portland OR March 23-25. She received a grant for $2,052.
• AARP Tax Help by Appointment is going on
• Envisionware research to switch Comprise, Waiting for Bibliotheca selfcheckouts/gates-back ordered-ETA April, Digital Media Lab we are working on
• Planning for FTEs for Summer 0.5 request goes to City Council March 22, and Fall Budget FTE request planning, research
• Letter from Nebraska Library Commission on lower government funding for 2019-2020, -2.04 cut for state aid for 2022. I communicated with Patrick from Finance. I emailed Sam
Shaw we lose $154 this year and next year we will be cut 6.5.
• Working with Library Foundation for Go Big Give, National Library Week, Crane Promo,
Crane-Outdoor Sound, Sponsorships, Vibe and presence in Convention and Visitor’s
• Working with Children’s Museum Board, H3C Board-Week of the Young Child March and April Promotions using Makerspace-CCC, H3C Week of the Young Child, Literacy Summit,-ELC, HN PrimeTimes began March 14 school age, and March 19 Preschool
• Police Substation with Chief Falldorf, Jerry J-Needs to go to Library Bd/City for approval
• Crane Display from Crane Trust in Art Alcove, Seed Exchange in Adult Area
• ByGone BookClub 28 in attendance, Heritage Hour March 20, will have 1 more month each then start up in the Fall
• Maintenance cleaned up library gardens, cleaning of back rooms,offsite, & flower beds
• Outreach to Northwest High School Career Day 3/16, and outreach to ELC for Bear Fair promos on March 31
• Library volunteer Jeanne McMindes won Nebraska Library Association Volunteer Award.
