Notice appeared in the Grand Island Independent on November 11, 2021. A quorum present, President Tanya Hansen called the meeting to order at 5:15 p.m. The following members were present: Ed Meedel, Jaime Parr, Kelli Arens, Sara White, and Maria Lopez. Celine Swan and Vaughn Minton were also present. Open Meetings Law Notice: Provided by President Tanya Hansen. Public Participation: None Approval of Minutes: Motion by Ed Meedel, seconded by Kelli Arens, carried unanimously to accept for filing the Minutes of the October 18, 2021 library board meeting. REPORTS: Approval of Financial Report: Motion by Ed Meedel, seconded by Kelli Arens, carried unanimously to accept for filing the July 2021, August 2021 and September 2021 Financial Reports. Approval of Bills Submitted: Motion by Ed Meedel, seconded by Kelli Arens, carried unanimously to accept for filing the October 26, 2021 and November 9, 2021 Bills Submitted. . Approval of Director’s Report: Motion by Kelli Arens, seconded by Maria Lopez, carried unanimously to accept for filing the Director’s Report. Reconsideration of Book That Is Currently In Our Collection: The Board members had a chance to review the book in question and after much discussion it was agreed to allow the book to stay in our collection. Motion by Ed Meedel, seconded by Sara White, carried with a vote of 5 in favor, 0 opposed, and 1 abstention. Approval of Reinstatement of Gumaro Cabral: Gumaro came in and visited with Celine and wrote up an apology letter for the board. Motion by Jaime Parr, seconded by Ed Meedel, carried unanimously to accept for filing the Reinstatement of Gumaro Cabral effective immediately. Staff Contact: Grand Island Regular Meeting - 12/20/2021 Page 17 / 31 November • Virtual Report/Media Report • Technology Plan with City IT-requested them to help with written plan • Nov 19-We received the 2022 ARPA Library Improvement Grant $28,232 (half of the grant requested) for selfcheckouts/gates/rfid stations etc. • Laura received the 2022 ARPA Youth Grant for Excellence $3,247 (half)for teen computers, Wacon tablets,makerspace table products outside of the lab for teens • Move Library Staff Parking West have moved signs, staff moving West to park • 2nd round to clean off-site storage on North Front Street • Heritage Hour had 13 attend, 7 for their book club • NLA Award to the Library Foundation Board Nov 13 2pm • Working with the Nebraska Department of Labor, partnership for job seekers • Zoom program with Migrant Families on Nov 16 Celine/Laura • Lincoln Elementary School Outreach Nov 18 ELL • Partnership with CHI Neurology for public program on strokes Upcoming-Library work • HVAC update-Finished Project, Honeywell is working on tweaking, Ray bollards installed • Strategic Plan Retreat Saturday, Dec 4 • Celine, Jeanne attended the CISA Active Shooter Training, Celine attended PLA Census • Bygone Bookclub had 20 for the Coney Island Program • DAR shelves-1 section came in that they purchased for the Heritage Room Partnership Makerspace Programs with Central Community College February-May 2022 • Shaun/Celine working on updating library policies with Tanya and Ben waiting to work on after Strategic Plan • Cleaned another area of stuff out of the North Front St Site, guys cleaned the basement after HVAC, and are working on the garage • Reminder-Library Annual Report to the Library Board to approve and get an affidavit and present to the City Council in Jan or Feb. • Staff working on promotions for interlocal Hall County residents to get library cards • Planning for Winter Break, Santa Program, Bear Fair, Summer Reading Programs • Winter Reading Challenge with Beanstack in January 2022 • Adult local author talk-Mark Miller January • Literacy Council –youth art contest 2022 • Partnership with CHI Neurology for public program on Parkinson’s • Laura working on Every Child Ready to Read Area • Purchasing makerspace materials needed. Eligible items are any physical items with no waiting list, has renewals remaining, and the borrowing patron does not exceed the fine limit or whose account has not expired.
