MINUTES OF REGULAR LIBRARY BOARD MEETING
December 17, 2018
Pursuant to due call and notice thereof, a Regular Meeting of the Library Board of the Grand Island Public
Library was conducted in the Heritage Room of the Library on Monday, December 17, 2018. Notice appeared in
the Grand Island Independent on December 13, 2018; and was posted on December 13, 2018. A quorum present,
President Ed Meedel called the meeting to order at 5:30 p.m. The following members were present: Ben
Boeselager, Jaime Parr, Tanya Hansen, Kelli Arens and Sapna Purawat. Steve Fosselman, Library Director,
Council Member Julie Hehnke and Assistant City Administrator Brent Clark were also present.
Open Meetings Law Notice: Provided by President Ed Meedel.
Public Participation: None
Approval of Minutes: Motion by Jaime Parr, seconded by Kelli Arens carried unanimously to accept for filing the
Minutes of the November 19, 2018 library board meeting.
REPORTS:
Approval of Financial Report: Motion by Ben Boeselager, seconded by Jaime Parr carried unanimously to accept
for filing the October 2018 Financial Reports.
Approval of Bills Submitted: Motion by Jaime Parr, seconded by Kelli Arens carried unanimously to accept for
filing the November 20, 2018 and December 4, 2018 Bills Submitted.
Approval of Director’s Report: Motion by Tanya Hansen, seconded by Sapna Purawat carried unanimously to
accept for filing the Director’s Report.
Board Communications and Committee Reports: Renovation construction progress was discussed. Ed Meedel
distributed proposed committee assignments: Building and Property – Kelli Arens and Jaime Parr; Marketing and
Advocacy – Sapna Purawat and Maria Lopez; Finance and Policy – Tanya Hansen and Ben Boeselager; Board
Development (including By-Laws) – Tanya Hansen and Maria Lopez.
Approval of Revision to Food and Beverage Policy (formerly Policy on Eating and Drinking in the Library):
A global change was made to make sure Library is capitalized in all documents. Motion by Ben Boeselager,
seconded by Tanya Hansen carried unanimously to accept for filing the Revision to Food and Beverage Policy.
Approval of 2019 Library Board Meeting Schedule: The following 2019 schedule was presented:

Approval of Nebraska Statutes 51-213 Annual Report for 2017-2018
and GILIBRARY 2020 Highlights for 2018
Staff is working on a two-sided report for distribution at the board meeting, incorporating a statistical
summary that stands as our annual report in accordance with Nebraska Statutes 51-213, and a brief
narrative of significant progress with GILIBRARY 2020.

Discussion of Policy Implementation in Newly Renovated Spaces
The board has previously discussed and approved policy changes in light of the anticipated conclusion
of the renovation project. Now that the west entrance has re-opened, this is an opportunity to review
policy implementation as well as discuss upcoming policy needs to be referred to committee.
