Shaun had a similar job in Beatrice before joining us this July. He’s also worked at public libraries in North Dakota and Oklahoma, and has a Masters Degree in Library Science. Shaun and Celine Swan, our Youth & Family Services Librarian, make a dynamic duo with daily supervision of all the staff and services benefiting you. Shaun comes to us at a critical time after the retirement of two long-time Librarians, Gerianne Pickering and Kathleen Nonneman. We decided to go with only two Librarians instead of three due to tight budget times. But this isn’t the first time we’ve done staff reorganization. Our library hasn’t had an Assistant Director since 2011. And at one time we had four Librarians and an Assistant Director. This would be consistent with other libraries our size. Much has happened since tight budget times started in 2010. We’ve had reductions in our staffing, a variety of schedule changes, lost our bookmobile outreach services, lost and regained free library card services to Hall County residents, reduced our budgets for books, audiovisual/electronic databases and magazines, changed systems to reduce our public access catalog/checkout system costs, and much more. Still through it all our philosophy has not changed: continuing to provide you with the best in library services, resources, programming and staff assistance that we can possibly do within our budget. Our remarkably resilient, creative and hardworking staff members make this happen every day! Next month we will feature the valuable coordination role of our Library Assistant II’s. “GET IN THE GAME READ” ART CONTEST WINNERS STAFF REORGANIZATION HELPS DURING TIGHT BUDGET TIMES: PART ONE Grand Island Regular Meeting - 8/21/2017 Page 18 / 25   4  Contact library for future program schedule COMING UP IN SEPTEMBER Grand Island Regular Meeting - 8/21/2017 Page 19 / 25 Library Programs and Activities August 21, 2017 Report Call for more details Title Date Primary Event Type Saturday Storytime 7/1/2017 Storytime LIBRARY ALIVE: New chapter in building a better library starts this summer (Independent) 7/1/2017 Media Baby and Toddler Lapsit 7/2/2017 Baby & Toddler Lapsits Mega Monday Program - Children's Summer Reading Program 7/3/2017 Children's Summer Reading Big Kid's Club 7/3/2017 Children's Summer Reading Minecraft Club 7/3/2017 Children's Summer Reading Build a Better World Family Building Club 7/3/2017 Children's Summer Reading The Library is Closed for the Fourth of July Holiday 7/4/2017 Announcement Golden Sower Fun Club 7/5/2017 Children's Summer Reading Teen Crafts 7/5/2017 Teen Summer Reading Preschool-Kindergarten Build a Better World Storytime 7/5/2017 Children's Summer Reading Youngsters asked to show-off their art (News Channel Nebraska0 7/5/2017 Media Summer Reading Enrichment Club 7/6/2017 Children's Summer Reading Lantern Craft: Teen Summer Reading Program 7/6/2017 Teen Summer Reading Howard School SRP 7/7/2017 Staff Use Saturday Storytime 7/8/2017 Storytime Veteran’s Legacy Project announces opportunity for community feedback (NBC Nebraska) 7/8/2017 Media City is seeking public input on development of G.I.
