Item -1
Update and Presentation by Subcommittees on Comprehensive
Plan Goals
As part of the update of the Grand Island Comprehensive Plan eight subcommittees were
formed to study and recommend goals, policies and objectives regarding a variety of issues.
The eight subcommittees covered the following areas: Streets and Transportation; South
Locust from I-80 to US Highway 34; Hazard Mitigation; City Image and Community
Beautification; Land Use/Zoning; Economic Development; Public Safety, Facilities and
Utilities; and Parks and Recreation. Over 120 people volunteered to participate in the
meetings.
The first meeting was held 2 months ago on October 10, 2002. The committees have all met
between 4 and 6 times during the last 2 months. Recommendations from one committee may
conflict with those of other committees. These recommendations will be forwarded to JEO
Consulting Group and the Steering Committee for the Grand Island Comprehensive Plan.
The Steering Committee and JEO will prioritize the goals as the comprehensive plan
develops. These goals and the plan will be presented the Hall County Regional Planning
Commission and the Grand Island City Council for adoption early in 2004.
