WHEREAS, the Grand Island Police Department has received notification that they
are eligible to apply for $33,601.00 in grant funds under the Byrne Justice Assistance (JAG) Program
and the Hall County Sheriffs Department has been named as a disparate agency; and
WHEREAS the Grand Island Police Department as the applicant will act as the fiscal
agent; and
WHEREAS, the Grand Island Police Department will be allocated $25,201.00 ofthe
grant funds; and
WHEREAS the Hall County Sheriffs Department will be allocated $8,400.00 of the
grant funds; and
WHEREAS, a public hearing was held on June 14, 2011, as required to discuss the
proposed use of such funds; and
WHEREAS, it is proposed that the grant funds allocated to the Grand Island Police
Department be used to purchase equipment for police services to improve effectiveness and safety.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF GRAND ISLAND, NEBRASKA, that approval is hereby granted to use grant
funds received from the Justice Assistance Grant program to purchase police equipment toward
improving police services and safety, and to provide $8,400.00 to the Hall County Sheriff's
Department.
