01/11/1999 Resolutions 99-SWA-1RESOLUTION 99-SWA-1 WHEREAS, the Grand Island Area Solid Waste Agency is a joint entity created by and between the City of Grand Island and the County of Hall; and WHEREAS, approximately 224 acres of property to the north of, and adjacent to the existing regional landfill is available for purchase; and WHEREAS, such property has the same geological and hydrogeological characteristics as the current landfill site; and WHEREAS, this property would provide a buffer between the current facility and neighboring property owners and provide a barrow (soil) source for current and future operations, construction and closure; and WHEREAS, a public hearing was held on January 11, 1999 for the purpose of discussing the proposed acquisition; and WHEREAS, grant funding to assist in purchasing such property is available through the Waste Reduction and Incentive Grants program is available; and WHEREAS, it is recommended that the Public Works Department be authorized to negotiate on behalf of the Solid Waste Agency, for the acquisition of such property. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GRAND ISLAND, NEBRASKA, acting as the governing body of the Grand Island Area Solid Waste Agency, that the acquisition of approximately 224 acres of property to the north of, and adjacent to the existing regional landfill is hereby approved; and the Public Works Department is hereby authorized to negotiate such acquisition on behalf of the Solid Waste Agency.
